In 2002, Mackenzie's four-year-old daughter became the third generation in her family to be diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Mackenzie recognized the severity of the diagnosis and set out to interview other young people with both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, three of whom she follows in her film.
